Welcome from the Chair
I would like to welcome you to the July edition of the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board newsletter.
We share this with you having recently held the annual Safeguarding Week campaign – and what a campaign it was!
I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on an event which shone the light on key safeguarding areas for adults boards, children’s and community safety partnerships such as domestic abuse, exploitation, self-neglect and many more.
The NYSAB hosted three multi-agency workshops. They covered Suicide Prevention, Postvention & Bereavement Support, Suicide Prevention & Mental Health and Homelessness, Substance Misuse and Mental Health exploring multiple disadvantages – recordings and resources from the Suicide Prevention sessions can be found here: https://nysab.webc-dev.co.uk/suicide-prevention
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the planning and delivery of the campaign. The programme of workshops may have been held virtually but through creative solutions it still felt very real and the level of engagement from both professionals and the public was simply brilliant.
Thank you to all of our guest speakers and presenters for sharing g your knowledge and expertise. Particular thanks to those inspirational contributors who shared their personal experiences to help us learn and develop.
And finally thank you to everyone who delivered activity in their local areas and those who attended the sessions, promoted the key messages and supported the campaign.
Although Safeguarding Week 2022 ends – our collective responsibility in doing the utmost to prevent harm, abuse and neglect does not, so my ask is that you continue to raise awareness, report concerns and promote the message that safeguarding is everybody’s business.
As well as Safeguarding Week we saw the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) go live on 1st July and the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner launched the multi-agency Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy on 30th June – more on both of these in this newsletter.
In ending – as the ICBs go live we say goodbye to the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) – North Yorkshire, Bradford District & Craven and Vale of York. I would like to give thanks for your invaluable contributions and hard work – not least in safeguarding.
Thank you!
Dr Sue Proctor Independent Chair, NYSAB

A new, overarching strategy to address violence against women and girls across North Yorkshire and York is being published today by Commissioner Zoë Metcalfe.
North Yorkshire’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner promised to prioritise this issue and, when she was elected last November, launched a complete review of how acts of violence or abuse that disproportionately affect women or girls are dealt with across North Yorkshire and York.

Integrated Care Systems (ICSs)
What are integrated care systems?
Integrated care systems (ICSs) are partnerships of organisations that come together to plan and deliver joined up health and care services, and to improve the lives of people who live and work in their area.
Following several years of locally led development, recommendations of NHS England and passage of the Health and Care Act (2022), 42 ICSs were established across England on a statutory basis on 1 July 2022.
More information can be found here: NHS England » What are integrated care systems?
What does these mean in North Yorkshire?
In North Yorkshire we will work alongside 2 ICSs:
- Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership; and
- West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership
More information about each of the partnerships can be found at the following links:
